Welcome to the Department of Art & Design
The Department of Art & Design at Cal State East Bay is a vibrant, inclusive community where creativity and critical thinking thrive.
With over 500 students and 26 dedicated faculty, we welcome aspiring artists and designers from the Bay Area, across California, and around the world. Our diverse campus brings together many voices and perspectives, enriching how we explore art, design, and the impact of creative work today. Many small classes of 24 students allow for personalized instruction and mentorship.
Seven BFA and BA programs combine traditional and digital skills through hands-on learning, preparing graduates for successful creative careers.
Our is an innovative interdisciplinary program for creating interactive applications and objects as part of a designed user experience.
The department features state-of-the-art computer labs to support graphic design, illustration, animation, and interaction & game design; well-equipped studio spaces for painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, and printmaking; a professionally-staffed machine shop; multiple student art galleries; and a 2000 square foot University Art Gallery with annual exhibitions.
