Welcome to the Forensic Science Research Center

The Forensic Science Research Center (FSRC) was officially approved as a university center by President Sandeen on May 12, 2022. The FSRC is dedicated to promoting excellence in forensic science through education, collaboration, research, community engagement, and mentorship. The FSRC envisions collaborations between students and faculty to research impactful topics in the field and engage with the community and professionals. The student success-focused and inclusive Center will assist with bringing forensic science to the community to increase engagement and allow students to interact with future researchers.

The FSRC is the first of its kind in Northern California and will provide hands-on training, internships, mentorship, networking, and research opportunities. Students will be able to utilize and hone critical thinking skills and apply coursework knowledge to the profession. The FSRC aims to expand knowledge of and access to forensic science through community fairs, webinars, and workshops to provide the realities of the field and magnify interest in the many career opportunities available. By thoroughly preparing students for entry-level positions in forensic science and crime scene-related professions, students will have a higher likelihood of earning a position in our local community.

The FSRC has been accepted to the , a joint venture between the and the , joining to connect laboratories, researchers, and students to research contemporary and fundamental forensic science topics. The FSRC is one of two California State Universities in the LEAP program and one of four universities across the entire state.

With the expensive nature of living in the Bay Area, sustainable funding is being sought to continue paying FSRC interns and purchase research instruments. Criminal justice and research partnerships are expanding to increase ÂÌñ»»ÆÞ students' internship opportunities. To best prepare students for the forensic science field, equipment and research supplies are needed to allow for hands-on experiences using cutting-edge tools, giving students a competitive edge when applying for careers. Future stages of the FSRC include an interactive crime scene house and a medicolegal death investigation research site, which students and practitioners can use for training and research.
