Level Up: The Evolution of Video Games

Exhibit Grand Opening | March 5 | 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM CE Smith Museum of Anthropology, Meiklejohn Hall In collaboration with Associated Students Inc. (ASI)

From early pixel-based games to immersive modern experiences, this exhibit invites visitors to think about video games as more than entertainment. The exhibit features interactive gaming stations that allow visitors to play, explore, and engage directly with different eras of gaming while learning about the technology and ideas behind them.

The grand opening event is designed especially for CSU East Bay students as a fun and engaging way to discover the CE Smith Museum of Anthropology and learn how it serves as a campus resource. In collaboration with Associated Students Inc. (ASI), the event will include tabling from student organizations and campus partners, giving students the opportunity to connect with support services, learn about involvement opportunities, and engage with the broader campus community.

In addition to exploring the exhibit, attendees can enjoy free snacks and take part in a gaming tournament with prizes, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere that celebrates the museum as a space for learning, connection, and student engagement.

Whether you are a gamer, a student looking to get involved, or someone curious about the cultural impact of video games, this event offers a fun way to learn, play, and level up.

  • 2025 50 Reception

Please join us at a special reception to not only celebrate the latest student-created exhibitions, but also the museum’s 50th anniversary!

    50 Years of Celebrating Cultures!

    Reception: Friday, April 18, 4:00 – 7:00 pm

The C. E. Smith Museum is turning 50! Please join us for a reception to celebrate this milestone and honor the legacy and ongoing impact of Dr. Lowell Bean (1931-2023), the first Museum Director. His dedication laid the foundation for this museum to flourish as a space to connect people with cultures around the world. Over the years, student exhibits have explored places from the American Southwest to Machu Picchu, and topics as diverse as shamanism and toy train collecting!

See the current exhibits featuring topics on restoring indigenous burning practices, and rebellion in the old Southwest – each offering a window into a different part of the human experience.

We invite you to bring your memories and stories of the museum to share a special moment or favorite exhibit! Don't forget to mark your calendars for an evening of celebration, reflection, and exploration.
